The exhibition presents the work of Slovak wire craftsmen.

Wire craftsmanship is a production- technical artistic phenomenon that plays an important role in the history and culture of Slovakia.

This handcraft started in the early XVIII century as an additional income source for people living in the mountain area of north-west Slovakia in the area of Žiline and Spiš. This local phenomenon became to evolve to a massive one and from relatively small, geographically limited area it spread out into all continents.

Although the traditional wire craftsmanship vanished after the II World War, it left an inspiring trace in the contemporary culture and art. Nowadays it is a stable source of inspiration for many Slovak artists and craftsmen who are using wire as a starting point to their original artistic declaration.

Showpieces presented on the exhibition are coming from Považski Museum in Žiline, gathered in the number of over six thousand is the biggest collection of things made of wire.
